Based at the Albert Pye Primary School

Wages: £111 per week

30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time plus 5 PD days)

Fixed term for the duration of the apprenticeship

 

This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic individual wanting to work in the education sector and who has a keen interest in the learning and development of children.

 

The post is 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time only plus 5 Professional Development days), worked Monday to Friday 8.30am - 12noon and 1.00pm - 3.30pm. The post will be paid 52 weeks per year to allow for college study and there may be some requirement to provide school holiday support work. Holidays are to be taken during school holiday periods only. 

 

As a Learning Support Apprentice you will work under the instruction of the teaching staff and nominated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. This will include the preparation and routine maintenance of resources / equipment. Work with pupils will be carried out in the classroom.

 

You will be required to:

  • Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
  • Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate
  • Prepare the classroom as directed for lessons
  • Be aware of individual pupils’ needs/progress/achievements and report to the teacher as agreed
  • Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour
  • Support pupils to understand instructions
  • Support pupils in respect of school curriculum e.g. Literacy and Numeracy, as directed by the teacher
  • Support pupils in using IT as directed
  • Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and assist pupils in their use
  • Be aware of, and comply with, the policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtimes
  • Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities

 

The apprenticeship provides good experience for working in any primary school environment.
