We promote a love a reading in our children by ensuring that children see reading as valued and interwoven in all parts of the school day from Nursery all the way to Year 6. We share stories during the school day, open reading sheds at lunch and break, hold reading events such as bedtime stories and book fairs. We reward our regular readers at home and support those who do not have the opportunity to read regularly at home. Our Mystery Readers show our children that everyone loves to read and help us to reach our aim of guiding children to become life long lovers of reading.
At Albert Pye and Ravensmere we encourage all children to read at home every day to ensure they continue to develop fluency along with a love of reading. To celebrate reading in our school, each child takes part in the Rainbow Reader Challenge. Each time the children read at home they work towards achieving a Rainbow Reader certificate for 30, 60, 90 reads etc. These certificates are awarded in our ASPIRE assemblies and we celebrate their reading achievement with the whole school.
